Right on saturday on the way home my battery light came on and stayed on until the following morning until i started the car. Drove for about half an hour and it came on again.

now i have checked and the charge is low below the 12v.

Now the car has started to misfire intermitanly and idle eratically.

New alternator has been ordered. Just want to know if that would cause these problems.

I would have said yes because the coil would need 12v to get a good magnetic field, without a good field you would get a weak spark, causing loss of power, missfire etc.
