Basically ive just changed my cambelt, water pump, cams, tensioner, rollers, etc and now the belt is slack. Its all the right parts they are all the same size as the ones i have taken off. The waterpump is in the correct position and the tensioner is back where the original one was. The belt is fed the same way round all the pulleys etc. Yet theres still a large amount of slack. There must be a good inch of movement in the slackest part of the belt. What am i doing wrong? Ive sat back and looked at it over and over again and i just cant see the problem. I could understand if i had put the pulleys on the wrong way round or not tightened up the tensioner but they are all the same as they were yet the belts loose The belt is definately the same size as the old one and the cam pulleys are the same size too so i just dont understand where im going wrong Any help please

X16XE thinks its manual although there is a spring type device to it on the back that keeps it pushed into the belt

If it auto tensioner which I think it is on 16xe then it should be preloaded before being tightened up.thier normally a little notch thing that says new and old on it. Wants setting like that. Dont think thier manual but if it is just crack it off and push it towards the belt take up some slack. Have you cranked it round by hand the right way off the bottom pulley?

Ok mate cheers i'll have a look i might have just missed it. Can you remember if the lip on the pulleys goes towards the block or outwards? The old ones came off: small one lip to block, bigger one lip outwards. Yet the new ones only fit one way with the lip to the block

Still having problems. The marks you were on about only move when the tensioner is under load but the belt is still too slack even for that. The only way ive found to tighten the belt is to turn the water pump. But for the belt to be tight the fans on the inside dont line up with the hole in the block.

When you tighten it up the pressure on the belt causes the pin behind it to move to the new or old position. But the belt is too slack to even do that

Cam pullies have a groove on each one that face into the middle so they face each other, crank lines up with the mark on the cover, water pump lines up with the mark on the block, tentioner slots in, tighten hand tight with the torx bolt going through the centre, place the belt around everything in the correct order (says in haynes manual) making sure everything is tight and finally put it on the tensioner and adjust that untill its tight.
If you have got too much slack have you put all the rollers back on?
