Im Thinking of smoothing the boot well over to make a flat floor so no well for a spare wheel....would it be ok and legal?

yep, just chuck a can of holts tyre weld in for the MOT

Do you need a spare wheel for MOT then? is there anyway of just putting a floor in a can never find big enough wood?....

no, you use tyre weld instead. its one or the other

You don't need a spare or a can of tyre weld for the MOT.
I've lost count of how many times i've pulled a spare out for the MOT in my mates cars.

Yes that is perfectly legal, I cut my old boot floor out and had sheeting riveted over the top.

Mot wise, you don't need to have a spare wheel. But if you do have a spare it must have legal tread on I otherwise it is a fail.

So yeh, your fine to do that!

you dont need a spare. you dont need a can of tyre weld. if you do have a spare and its bald it will still pass an mot.

Seems you're right there Nic, I always assumed if it's there it's testable.

Taken from AA website.

Spare tyre

There is no legal obligation to carry a spare tyre and it does not have to comply with the legal requirements while it is stowed away. However, when fitted to the vehicle (for example, following a puncture) it must then comply with the law. A spare tyre is not a testable item in the MOT test, though the examiner may draw your attention to an unserviceable item as a matter of courtesy.
