Are there any other CAD programs similar to Catia (the UI being similar)

Most people tend to start off with Solidworks at uni or college, when they get a job they graduate onto using Catia. Dassault makes both products, but they differ quite a bit; though the people who I know who started on Solidworks and are now on Catia don't seem to be having any issues.

When I've looked before, I haven't been able to find a student version of Catia for individual installation. You can get an individual student installation of Solidworks for about £100 a year - that gives you the software and no technical support.

(You could also start using Autodesk products, they provide student installations of their software too).

We use Catia at uni, as you say you can't get an individual license so need something similar to practise on.

I will have a look into solidworks

The other option would be to get a dodgy version of Catia from somewhere. The workflow on Solidworks is fairly different to Catia, but could still be useful to learn as many small businesses will use software like that as opposed to Catia.

That's only for 2D drawings though, the software we're discussing is 3D
