What flavour of Linux are you using.

I've used Mint, RedHat and Mandrake in the past. TBH, i've always gone back to XP

Gentoo here

cant be doing with generically compiled packages which aren't fully optimised for your system...

Rather have something fine tuned to just how I want it

Did away with Windows over 2 years ago now and never looked back...

My housemate says exactly that

My computer at home only has 512mb RAM and most modern XP stuff is abit ram happy. Windows live messenger for example

I'd rather use pigeon

+ my copied XP version has gone mental on me

Depends what you use your system for, there are some functions where I would pick Windows any day of the week.

It's good for Catia V5, which would mean that people like BAE systems and Boeing would use it too. Linux systems tend not to have any flashy stuff in them meaning that the system resources can be used for large apps rather than stuff like an Aero desktop...

There are too many flavours imo. Any tom dick and harry and strip it down to the kernal and then build a new os on top. Linux has it's uses, just not as a desktop os for the sandard user.

Its good but for the every day user its far to complicated. It's like DOS all over again when your down to the kernel. I've tried using it for a week or so but ended up back with windows because its so much easier to use.

Nearly all my machines at home are linux, mix of RHEL and Debian.

Only windows one is MCE 2005 as linux MCE isn't mature enough for my liking yet
