When I start the car the needlegoes down in stead of up but there plenty of oil in the engine and I've try'd swoping the terminals round but then it just does not move. Any suggestions?

needle goes down? the needle should be at 0 before the car starts so if it wasnt getting a signal it shouldnt move? what brand gauge is it, has it previously been working and stopped or have you just plumbed it in and its not working?

Yea it goes down. It dose start at 0 then while it's turning it over it goes up a little bit then once it started it drops. It's just an eBay one. It just been plumbed in and it's not working.
