I have got a 1.6 16v now after blowing the old 1.4 16v.
I had this chip on the 1.4 with rev limiter increased to 7500rpm because also have a powebox.
It gained 4,5 bhp on the 1.4 (the chip alone) but still works well on the 1.6.
So if you fit a powerbox it is a cheap way of increase the performance. Be careful because there are several types of ECU's with different sockets.

Cheers mate may as well give it a try can I just replace the chip or do I have to change the whole ecu / ring?

oops forgot to tell they welded a socket to the main board of the ECU so you maybe need to change the
ecu and ring. Same as mine

Can you run a X16XE reliably with an X14XE ECU?

yes no problems at all. Mine is the same as the one I used with the X14XE. Even the map in the chip is for the X14XE and it runs without problems for 3 years.
Of course the map is not optimised for the 1.6 engine but I will only change it when adding 272 or 266 cams if funds allow

yes, but I wouldn't bother and you have to pay for it .
I will only change the map with new cams
