Any recommendations before I scour the internet?
Over the years at my parents we tried loads, electric, simple, fancy, cheap, expensive, all a bit crap.
I got standard crap one when I moved into the house but it's that bad I've resorted to my swiss army knife for some tins.
Anything that works every time will do but bonus points for being geeky.

I've got two, one which cuts well and the other which has a magnet to grab the lid. They make a great team.

That culinare one eventually stopped working as well.

Oh it is mate. Goto supermarket and buy a tin opener!
I have one of those ones that cuts the can below the rim instead of the inside of it. Magi-can it might be called. Job done

Have a chrome electric one from argos, worked fine for 18 months now. Was about 11 quid.

Brabantia manual here, works every time. Even opens square Spam/corned beef type tins. Had two cheapo ones before and they both stopped working when one of the cogs wore down.

Someone else sharing my pain then, we went through about 10 tin openers over the space of a few months about a year ago.
Got a Wilkinson £2.25 one and it's lasted. (http://tinyurl.com/5tyoace)
Saying that, got one again the other day and it broke on first use
