i have just got two new JBL 1000 watt subs.

Some of my mates are telling me that I have to run them in before really craking up the volume.

Is this right? or can i turn them up full straight away?

Nah you will need to run them in for a while, otherwise they'll end up sounding pants. I kept mine on 1/4 volume for about 10 hours (in journey time of course) and then slowly started taking it up.

dont worry about magazines runnin them in, they like to butcher subs and give as much up em as possible, plus it doesnt cost them anything.
subs have alot of movin parts, such as the rubber surround and when their new its all stiff, if u slam alot of watts up them straight away the rubber wont be able to flex fast enuff, plus the voice coil will end up being burnt out.

yes you definately do, one of my mates works in an ice shop and hes defo knows his shit, one of there cars always coems first or second in national sounds offs, and he told me 60 hours to run it in at a low gain. plus you are supposed to warm them up, ie not really loud for the first few minutes.
