just recently i have noticed that when i start the car for about 3-5secs there is a very loud ticking noise coming from the engine. This doesn't happen all the time and its starting to annoy me now.
I was thinking it might be the lifters but the noise goes after about 3 seconds
Anybody had this with their car. Its a 1.2 8v
Any opinions or advice greatly appreciated

I have the same thing on the same and I ran it into my borthers garage yesterday. They took the rocker cover off and had a good look. Apparently It is my cam, cam follower, oil pump and a load more stuff.
Apparenlty needs pretty much an engine rebuild to sort it all.
I'm just going to sell the car and if anyone notices say I think it's tappets

It's just the lifters, when you start there is little oil at the top (damn gravity) so they have to wait for a few secs to get thr pressure in them to work correctly, nothing to worry about. esp if it a few secs. If it does bother you that much then next oil change use the engine flush stuff, or better still take them out strip and clean them. but that's a bit more invloved.
Basically don't worry

at the replys in this topic - totally agree with gambit and JL1400
mines does this too for 3 secs on in the morn, i wouldn't be thinking of having a full engine rebuild because of it
it is a bit obvious though - that the oil needs time to circulate init, since the noise comes from the top of the engine...
