I've no idea what thermostat wax is, but as a general rule, the thermostat should open at about 100 degrees C.
If you take it out and hang it on a piece of string in a pan of water, heat the water and the 'stat should start to open just at or before the water boils.
To be technical, on a SOHC engine, it starts to open at 88 degrees and fully opens at 106 degrees.
On the DOHC it starts to open at 92 degrees and fully opens at 107 degrees.
The operating temperature of your actual thermostat will be marked on it. on it somewhere.

I wasn't being sarcy, i was just pointing it out that it is in the haynes in an attempt to help. Im sure most people on here that have a haynes dont know it is.

well i'd rather post a question on help and mod advice for free, than go n buy a haynes manual for £20, dont take it to heart

my question was what temop does thermo wax expand, u told me about what temps the thermo opens, i already knew that however i dont know what temo the wax STARTS to expand

Note the word "start" both times, you obviously didn't read the answer.
BTW, theres no wax in your thermostat.
I won't bother next time, like Miles says, buy the manual if the answer aint good enough

seriously talkin tho, theres wax in mine which expands for a certain purpose,which ive yet to find out, just wondered what temp it started to expand thats all, out of curiousity i was bored for 10mins so i killed time by asking on here
