Ive heard an 8" dual 4 ohm voice coil W3 playing in parallel at 2 ohms. It was getting about 350 rms and sounded great. Not strained at all. Obviously didnt drop like bigger subs but punched alot better at the same time

JL are tried and tested! very good subs. JL subs and PG amps are a popular combination.

God, think you need to get experience of subs before you choose. Personally I would never use an 8" as a sub, more a midbass speaker. 15's and 8's are chalk and cheese, if you do want a MAD system you want to run 8's in the front doors with 15's in the boot... true SQ!

So from guessing you want them for looks? As 8's sound COMPLETELY different to 15's? I would never really put 8's in the rear, they will pull the stage backwards and will not extend into the low sub frequencies at all. 15's are the opposite, extend waaay low and need huge amounts of power compaired with 8's. 15's have no real kick though, nothing like a good 8 would have. Why not settle for a pair of tens, they would be very nice and good on the ear, very musical and not hammer into quality listening like a high-powered 15 would...

Got to agree with Tomas. Theres no comparison between 8" and 15" subs and as good as an 8" sub can sound it will never b a truly loud dropping system.
I thnik you should consider what kind of music your going to be listening to because a couple of 8" subs are going to do nothing for say hip hop or RnB in the same way as a 15" wont play dance or pop music properly.
A couple of decent 10" sounds like a good bet tho
