I'm aware that i should have used the search button for this, but I'm at work and I'm bored so I may as well type it out

Car is coming up to being a year old in September. It's done a little over 6.5k.

When do I need to book it in for service? September? Or at 10k?

It's around £80 isn't it?

Thanking you please sir

Like SRI-Co says the reminder will come on the mileage thing when it's due

What does servicing actually do. MOT is for safety isnt it? but service is for.....

I've had three cars and never needed to service them .

ROFL!

all it is essentially is just checks, making sure everything is working as it should and that nothing bad is going to happen if you continue to drive it. Pretty damn important if you ask me really!

Plus they top stuff up like oil, brake fliud, washer water etc etc.. although I like to do this all myself

Well arent you so perfect?!

Sorry. some of us arent as amazing as you and can do all this magical stuff all by ourselves. i'd rather pay to get it done and know what was getting done was correct, not by some fuckwit know-it-all.

And the reason my cars have never been serviced is because ive never kept them longer than 9000 miles.

A service is to maintain the car, keep it running well to give it a long and healthy life. For instance the oil and brake fluid deteriorate over time (suposedly the service interval) so they need changing to keep things working properly and to prevent excessive wear.

Car manufacturers like long service intervals because it makes it look like their car is low maintaince and cheap to run. This however is probably at the expense of looking after it as well as you could.

Its important to do regulary.

I change my oil & filter every 3,000 miles, other stuff I tend to do as and when.

Where are you buying your oil and filters!?

You can do an oil change with a genuine Vaux oil filter and vaux fully synthetic oil for £15.

Dave your car needs to be serviced every 1 year or 20k, whichever comes first, and its start from the date of reg of your car. As for costs, this varies as all VX dealers charge different rates, its worth shopping around, but generally between 80-100

As scandalous says, 1 yr or 20k. The longest i've owned a car is 9 months, and only did about 9k in that period, therefore NEVER being neccasary for me to service my car, as it was always done when i bought them.

Thanks for your wit and sarcasm when i was asking for help in the Help section of the website.
