In my 1996 LS
the car didnt come with the rev counter dials so installed the SRi ones.
basically u turn on the ignition / start up and the petrol light illuminates then goes off after a couple of seconds.
but when it gets near / in the red zone on the gauge it doesnt light up.
Is there some kind of system i have to install?

the light will come on. the needle has got to be at the beginning of the red to light up tho.

^ replace bulb on back of dials?
the petrol light will be on at start up because when ignition is off, the needle settles at empty doesnt it, so when the ignition is turned on the needed is still on empty and hence the light, as the needle starts to move up to fill level, light goes off! simple

Lol fair play. i will put it to the test. only started noticing it as the bulb hasnt worked for ages.
The gauge is on the middle of red at moment and nothing? hmm
