what is the easiest and cheapest way of fixing this problem, the engine is a C16XE
seems slow to drop in revs and idle seems a bit random although sometimes steady, i want to remove the inlet and clean it all but it looks pretty tight back there?
any info would be great

depends how bad the problem is, i used to get it slightly a year back or so, and it fixed itself... ive cleaned and replaced almost every other sensor in the engine bay except for th ICV... so it must be the cause of it as i still get jerky throttel responce!
also on the c16xe its a mission to get the manifold of and then get to the ICV!!!
and i think a new ICV sensor from vauxhall is about £100
if u do get it off give it a good clean first and then try it

this is EXACTLY whats happening on my gsi (pre ecotec)
idles at 2,000rpm sometimes and take a while for revs to drop during gear changes etc. othertimes the car is totaly fine!
it also happend on my SRi 8v and i cleaned the ICV with carb cleaner and it solved the problem, the haynes manual looks complicated and says you have to drain the coolant and de-pressurise the fuel system??? all i wanna do is clean the damn thing! new ICV from vaux is £58!!! so defo worth tryin to clean it
im also not getting any ecu light on the dash which i used to on my old SRi
just how easy / hard is it to remove the inlet manifold? i believe its quite easy after thats out of the way?

so once i remove the plastic inlet i should more or less be able to easily access it,
hate reading the haynes manual as it gives you the longest way possible

on a c16xe, the throttle body screws are put in from the bottom and go into the plastic inlet. on an x16xe the screws are from the top making the job soo much easier. when i did my headgasket these screws proved a right slag to get out. if you give the car a few good runs without too much stopping it might clear up a bit. or totally

i'm selling one on ebay if you need one all cleaned up and ready to go, is a bitch to get off though and fit a new one. starting price is £15 so cheaper than £100 brand new from vauxhall.
for £15.00 you'll at least have an ICV that has only done 15,000 miles since new. link :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4567156948&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

hmm randomly got worse now usually idles at like 2-2.5k slower to drop revs and its making the car quite jerky for some reason
....would it not be possible for me to push that rubber pipe back as far as possible then spray some carb cleaner into the inlet as a temporary fix surely this would atleast remove some of the cack that has probably built up in there
