Hi,
My Cat is on the way out, as the car is starting to smell abit now. Was just wondering, how does that affect the fuel usage?! As my car seems to be drinking quite alot of petrol recently, wondered if it was connected at all
Thanks
Matt

if the cat is bust then its letting more back pressure out, so more gas can escape, so i think it can let more air and petrol in with the reduced back pressure. u should have small power gain if the cats completely gone

but then the lambda would adjust fuelling accordingly.

if the cells in the cat have broken down the cat wont reduce hydrocarbons resulting in high exhaust emmissions.
my bet is its the cat. post up you failed mot results and ill be able to tell you.

Its not failed an MOT, its just been smelling quite abit recently (smells when idleing, and you can smell it inside the car when you boot it).
Someone said that its my CAT, and its on the way out. I was just wondering if this has any effect on fuel usage, as my MPG seems to be alot worse recently

there shouldnt be any abnormal smells from a broken CAT, it should in fact rattle between idle and 2000rpm since the ceramic cells break down inside

Car just stinks of petrol if left idleing for a while, and when you boot it, you can smell the same inside the car

does not sound like the cat the cat will only smell when the car is over fueling as said previously the cat would rattle not smell. get the temp sensor and lamba sensor checked
