got a 1997 1.4 16v sport. its prob nothing but i think she sounds tappy it might just be me oil levels fine. just me bein picky do we thinks?

Mine is slightly tappy when cold so is a mates think most are tbh

how many miles has it done? will most likely be the hydraulic lifters. Is it all the time or just for a few minuites in a morning?

Mine taps when its cold, and its fine when ive been driving, but right after a long journey it taps when at idle  1.2 C btw

mine taps all the time, i was runnin without no oil for a while without knowin an eversince fillin it up, it always taps now....the tappets maybe?

yep mine too  only started within last week. oil is fine etc. sounds worse in mornings but it constantly does it.
1.4 m reg 5 door done 111850 ish miles
any idea what it could be?

It's what they do. It's the valves slapping shut, or the lifters tapping. The ammount of work involded in sorting it out outweighs the benfits. I have replaced min on my 2.0, but it still taps a bit when cold.

Na, it's common with older Vauxhall engines. Really not worth fixing unless it's really really really bad even if the enigne is warm. I have had a fiar few engines apart and the only one with damaged lifters was the Vectra 1.8, the lifters were discoloured to a shade of gold, but then the a conrod had flown through the block so I think the car had been thrashed

You could think about using a slightly heavier oil - or maybe something for a high milage engine like Castrol GTX High Milage.

You SURE its a tap - because Vauxhall injectors tick which can sound like tapping.
