i'm currently using MOTUL/series8100/5w40 full syntetic, and on the next oil change i'm thinking of switching to MOTUL/series6100/10w40 full syntetic....or is it better to use factory Opel oil 10w40 semi-syntetic which is way cheaper than Motul? Also is there any difference in these 3 options above for keeping the engine temperature cooler? Thanks.

Oil is oil no matter what it's branded as. However, you should be using semi synthetic 10w40 oil in that engine.

oils vary massively in their chemical make-up. lots are recycled (cheaper oil) and these dont last as long and dont give the same protection as the better brands available.

stick to 10w 40 for most vaux engines and the vaux stuff is quite good. for high performance, high revving engines a 0w 40 fully synth can be used if required. mobil 1 is the best about. (have a friend that designs oils for the motorsport industry)

They are both the same weight when at operating temp, so there is no difference. 5w40 is thicker than 10w40 when cold.
