bit vague i know, but here goes
when i accelerate there is a tapping noise form the engine, i looked at it and there seems to be a tapping/rattling noise coming from the pullys (sp) side of the engine (around there somewhere)
i know this is vague but any random ideas/help as to what it could be would be appreciated
Marc
Edit: 1.2 16v DOHC engine (if needed to be known)

don't think so.
might not be them, might be tappets though it was a guess tbh lol, its hard to identify where exactly the noise comes from

Take your cambelt cover off and have a look at the condition of the cam belt and pullies a cambelt kit is around £80 or around £200 ish fitted
normaly you will here tappets at idle if you going to change them there about £10-15 each

remove as much plastic covers as possible and use a tube (kitchen roll tube is ideal) to listen to different parts of the engine. eventually you will hear a dfference in the noise and it will become 'clearer'. this is the best way to locate where its coming from.

it isnt during idle, just on normal acceleration (not hard acceleration)

would/coud the tapping be a simple case of one ot the "teeth" on the belt having come off for some reason
would this result in a tapping noise when the belt rotates?

Porbably better off taking it to a garage.
Theres a place near long eaton that specialise in just engines. Take it to them.
The exit at the little chef round about bit is where its at, just down from there.

Wait a min, your engine is chain driven so it could be the chain thats gone which wil cost even more. Just to scare you, i think it works out cheaper to buy a new engine if the chain is duffed.

Its not belt driven, im sure the 1.2 16v were the same as the 1.0 12v style.

It is belt driven to an extent!
BUT the belt is driven off the crank pulley, round your alternator to 1 single pulley at the top to drive the chains.
Shite oil and hardly changing it can casue them to rattle like mad and can be very expensive, i know this is the case on some of the larger engined ecotecs.
Mine has a chain noise to it, and a rattling to begin with but soon goes when the engine is warm, thought it was just a vauxhall thing!

thank fook it didnt buggar up on me today its in the garage on monday
it also uses alot of oil seriously a considerable amount, i think she has a bigger problem than i think
an oil change was done not too long back and since then its continued to use large-ish amounts of oil
i didnt realise it was chain driven, im stupid and just thought the belts on the side meant it was belt driven
i think she may have a bigger problem than i think will find out on monday
thanks for the help/comments helpful people
