okay my amp has a new 'thing' atm... it runs perfectly for about 10 mins. then after that time, itll cut out for around 30 secs, then come back for 30 secs, then again cut out for 30 secs and it will repeat this process for as long as im driving. sendin me crazy!

how do i fix this, stronger battery, power cap? im running alpine h/u, phoenix gold amp to a jbl sub, i have about £300 to spend on fixing that and a general upgrade, any recommendations? i dont mind spending more... just means i gotta save up a bit more!

i would presume it is overheating yeah. how exactly can i tell though other than it being hot? lol. the wiring all came with my old alpine type-r sub. cant remember the make of it but it was worth £40 (or so they say!)

Have a look on the power cable and tell us what size it is (normally called gauge or awg) and how many Watts the amp is.

what is the thickness of the cable? It should have it in white writing for example "4AWG" or just "4 gauge power cable

As asaid above.. try turning the volumes down on the amp or the settings on the head unit.. When using it do you notice the head lights and interior lights dimming at all.

I used to have the exact same problem with my amp, i changed all the fuses, including the one which is attatched to the amp and i also built another fuse into the line, but that was because i was runnng another amp aswell, after that it has been fine. Dont no if tht is any help to you or not.

as i said ive got an alpine mono amp, which ill try out again

so is it more of the case that the amps not powerful enough, rather than the batterys not giving it enough power? if that makes sence

Yeah, but if you go 4 bigger amps, a better battery or a capacitor might be worth a buy.

The battery will give enough power (providing its not fooked), the amp will only draw what it needs, but then if its going into protect mode and you've checked everything outside to amp (ie wires etc ....) then it could have done damge inside the amp.

Try your amp in a mates car. If it does the same its the amp, if it doesnt then its your wiring.

At least then you will know what to look at

You cant damage an amp by lowering the amp fuse on it. All that would happen is that it would pop if the current got too high. It dangerous putting a higher rated fuse in.

Its probably over heating. recently my jbl amp has been getting rather hot and switching itself off for 5sec then switching on. As a temp measure to help it put the rear seats forward slighty so some of the warm air rises out

hi i got round to trying my alpine amp again...

now when i turn it on, everything looks fine, all the lights come on etc! but... there is no sound given to the sub!?

the temp shows up on the amp display, i change it to volts and it shows 12.3 V which sounds right to me. however, when changing the display to amps, it shows --- A i.e. nothing. could this be the amps problem? if so what do i do about it?

(i have made sure the fuses in there definitely work!)

its just the fact that all the wires work with one amp, but not the other... so it must be the amp right?
