Im looking to spray this my bootlock surround.
To remove it is it just the three bolts under by the wiper motor? Once removed can you still access the boot without the surround? (incase i cock it up:lol
Also i have a pre97 one, how easy is it to remove the badge without bending or altering the shape?
Thanks

3 bolts yes.pre 97 you can just pop it out, yes you can open but just don't shut the boot to avoid the problem

I shut the boot when doing mine, lol. I spent ages trying to hook the bar from the outside but all you have to do is push it down from the inside!
3 bolts and the mechanism will pop out from the inside, you need to unhook the release bar first though which is easy.
then the whole thing just lifts off!

Dont sound too bad then. How long can you leave something primered up and leave exposed to rain and sun etc?

U shud be able to do it over 2 days, just spend a long time rubbing it down and priming then give it about 3 - 4 coats of primar leave it for a couple of hours.
Then give it about 3 - 4 layers of paint starting patchy and eventualy covering it all, leave paint layers about an hour + to dry proberly more, i left each coat over night to be safe.

Quite easy to do, go to halfords and buy some wet&dry sandpaper, 400 grit, 800 grit, 1000 grit and 1200 grit. Get some filler primer, grey primer (depending on the colour of your car), paint, and lacquer.
Sand it down with the 400 first, then the 800. Then 1000 grit. Then give it a wash, then filler primer. Leave it 30 mins, then another coat. Leave it for a couple of hours, then using the 1200 grit, flat the primer down. Then give it a coat of gray primer, leave it 30 mins, another coat, leave for a few hours, and flat again using 1200 grit.
Wash it off, dry, then a few coats of paint. Leave it for a few hours, then a few coats of lacquer.
How mine started:

Painted:

And fitted:

Quite a bit of work, but the end product is ace.

Cheers chris, highest grade grit i got was 600 and been doin it since about 10-11 and done first few layers of primer and its nearly as smooth as silk. Just a few bits need flatting then il do a final coat to dry overnight. Its being pretty fun doing this, something to fill a day in with.

I personally got 600 and 1200, I found it was all that was needed. But each to their own.
I know, I did my bootlock as something to fill the day with and now im addicted, haha. Keep finding things to do or change.

i took them off..........piece of piss.
Now they are sprayed...its time to fit them not a piece of piss. Its GOING to go wrong, i can see it now
Edit - i wouldnt recommend doing them
Edit Edit - plus they are metal or mine are, so its even more trouble since they have that crappy coating stuff on them.

ive just painted some handles for the punto, but they went wrong had three little marks on them, so i sanded them back and sprayed them again. Tbh you probably wouldnt be able to see them, but it would still be there.

ChrisBoom-How did you get rid of the textured original finish on the handle?
Did you sand it off?
Or did the filler primer smooth it?
Looks a top job for spray cans.

Sand with 600 first to remove the texture, then smooth it out with wet 1200...
then when you've put layers of primer on leave it to dry for a few hours and then sand that down with some wet 1200 again.

Its not 100% finished yet, still needs to be laquered.
Before

After

The colour match is pretty good, just it was rather hot and sunny this afternoon
What do you think?
