Hi
I am having trouble getting my Corsa Sport (1.4 16v 1997) through the mot. It is failing on emissions and the garage plugged in the diagnostics and said that the ecu is at fault: it is basically giving false info, such as saying that it is doing 23mph while it is stationary and running lean which I suppose is causing it over fuel and raise the emissions. So my question is how much do Vauxhall, or any alternative, charge to replace the faulty software with a standard map?
Many thanks
Nick

dont think they will remap the thing, if its faulty the manufacturer will just replace not try and fit, then again it may just need a update as i had this problem with KA's when i worked for fords, they would over fuel and burn the cat out and naff the hego's/lambda sensor, update/remap of the ecu later and it was all ok.

i dont think a ''download'' will fix your problem mate tbh, running lean doesnt make the emissions high it makes them lower, it all depends on what part of the emmissions is wrong e.g co2 or h.c. a software download is about 30 quid at work and can or should only be able to be done by vauxhall as the software is up dated all the time

Ok thanks guys. The emissions failed on: fast idle test CO 0.68% vol.

What engine?
If the ECU thinks its doin 23mph when stationary, that'd point to the vehicle speed sensor being faulty.

X14XE standard. There were other problems with the ECU that suggested to the mechanic that the ECU was at fault.

Have you check the water temperature sensor?
Very common fault.
sometimes the sensor is ok but there is some play in the socket
I am almost sure the ECU is not faulty...

Silly me.....I had to change the CTS on my 1.6 to get it passed on emissions last year.
Thats a good thing to change. About a tenner.

Did you get any running problems apart from the high emissions?
Lumpy idle etc?

Right, I've just been down to local Vauxhall dealers and had a Tech2 done which showed no fault codes and no problems with any of the sensors or the ECU for that matter. Chap suggests it might be the cat.

The car has had a slightly lumpy idle for a while now and sometimes when cruising in 5th gear if you take your foot off the gas it feels liks it misses.
Last year I changed oxygen sensor and CTS which seemed to help.
Thanks
