Right,
Sometimes when i start my car the revs just drop and the engine dies. This also happens when i go out of gear or slow down. EML light is on. Any ideas?

mine had the exact same problem, apparently its the quad driver module which causes it not to idle and jus cut out, may need new ecu, if u cnt afford one (like myself) jus adjust the throttle cable so that its tight and it will idle, and apparently the quad driver module efects the speedo, dont know how but mine just bounces all over the place up until about 30mph

It's an X14XE. I had vauxhall come out the other day to reprogram the ECU for the immobiliser because i had a new key. It's been happening since then. The car will idle fine eventually if i give it some revs but when the EML light comes on that's when i get the problem.

Would this cause it to not idle properly?

my speedo went out once, then the eml light came on then when i stoped or the revs droped it would cut out.
2 days i went like this and all it was was a 1p stuck in the cig lighter shorting everything, then put a new fuse init and it was fine.

Yeah it starts fine but i need to keep the revs up sometimes to stop the engine from cutting out.

ah..... right depends the vss can be in 2 places, either on the back of the clocks, internal sensor or something, or located on the gearbox. and im not sure which it is for yours, prob gearbox i think. basically you need to replace it, doesnt cost much!
