Well, ill start at the beginning.....I was driving home from work on a dual carriageway at around 70mph and my car just cut out.....dash lit up like a xmas tree. Luckily i was just about to come off at my exit so rolled down it, at the end tried starting my car.....started but was making the worst noise ever, was miss firing and sounded as thought it was running on 3 cylinders...engine management light on permantly and service light.
So gets it home, books it in for the next morning at local garage. Has diagnostic and fault comes up saying cylinder 3 ignition failure. So the mechanic says it will be coil pack and spark plugs.......so £120 later its all fitted and still is not any better.....engine management light is still on and its still saying cylinder 3 ignition failure (funily enough no refund)........So today i have booked it into a tuning place that have all the top machines to find out any problem.....Was wondering if this has happened to anyone else on here and if anyone could shed any light on what could be the problem????!!!!!?????
This would be much help....Cheers

Don't they have to use a computer to erase the fault?

yeah he tried to erase the fault, but it just kept coming back on....Its in limp mode also but when it isnt on limp mode it is still miss firing and running on 3 cylinders. Spoke to a guy at the tuning place im going and he seems to think it is either... no compression in cylinder 3 or something up with my injectors. Its struggling to move.....no power and its like bubbling when i rev it. Sounds like a broken subaru if you get me?!?!?!?!?!

Mine did this when i had the induction kit put on. Only happend the once though. Engine managment come on and sounded like a tracktor. Pulled up at services and turned off the engine for a few mintues. Was fine after that.
Was my own fault that happened though i think. Was pushing the car too hard..
Had a new gearbox fitted shortly this problem though. Also had new spark plugs and an oil change.

Well andrew it happened to me before exactly like you said. Switched my engine off, then back on again and was fine...but this time......just died on motorway...n since then. Knackered, at the moment i have a fair bit of money saved up so im looking for a bigger engine now...at least the corsa 1.8sri....but really i want a z20 let....just been looking to find damaged zafiras or astra gsi's.......Not going to rush to buy an engine tho....still goes on 3 cylinders...just. So wait until write engine comes along.

if its got very low/ no compression i can garrante its bent valves
if compression just abit low then you might get away with a new chain
new timing chain and say 4 valves at most along with a headgasket kit would be fixed in no time

No compression at all.....its getting stripped down inda the next couple of weeks....see the damage then fix it...but even when fixed still want a bigger engine.....will have to see how much it is going to cost to fix first
