my 1.4 16v v-reg sport has started making a noise when first starting the car up - it sounds like tappets (but it dont have them does it??)
it will be there when i rev but if i go over 2250ish its stops - same for while i am driving - if i go over 2250 in any gear it will stop but go below this and it sounds awefull
it also seems like the noise stops after the engine has ran for a while and got warmer - and if i turned the ignition off and back on it wouldnt have the noise - unless i left it for a while to cool down again
the EML is on and there are a few codes came off it via paperclip test and one of them was the "crank sensor" and also "knock unit orquad drive module"
does anyone have any idea:
1. what the noise is and how to sort it
2.if the fault codes i have mentioned are related to the noise
Cheers for any help people,
Jon

they dont have tappets but they do have hydraulic lifters.
they can be noisy from cold, especially at lower revs.

if its brought up knock sensor as a fault code then that might have something to do with it

Quad drive module is an internal ecu fault. Can be caused by bad earths.

Have you got plenty of oil in it? The valve lifters used to get noisy on mine when it was getting a little low on oil. might be worth doing an oil and filter change and see if that helps
The crank speed sensor code can be ignored because that always come up when you do the test without the engine running, dont know about the other code though
