basically iv moved a folder into another folder (whilst in a program so no threw the folders itself kinda thing)
but anyway now it wont let me in the folder id moved  says access denied
help??

arron - did and its done nothing,
whittie - cant as its works comp  tbf its not really needed now. would be just nice if it worked again

Whats your Operating System? And what program moved your stuff around?
If the program is still running it could be still accessing it when you are and could give some sort of error, perhaps try a reboot and access again?

rab: its windows xp, moved it whilst in sage payroll... was saving it and moved the folder into another folder where i would be able to find it easier.
tom: nah didnt just made a new folder and carried on. will try it 2moro

if your getting access denied, and your an admin - should be able to take ownership of the folder and open it or move it back

Can you right click --> Properties --> Security (on Vista just now, and cant remember exactally what it looks like in XP) And check that the permissions are set to like Allow etc?

wont let me rename it says make sure its not being used by another programme or write protected.

Stumped me man.
Its weird that it says its being used by another program, you did try a reboot yeah?
Only other way I can see is to change the file permissions via command line rather than the right click Properties thing (since its not there) but I couldnt tell you how to do this in Windows, I believe its not as easy as in Linux, but perhaps someone here will know

Can be used to turn off the permissions for System Volume Information etc.. so you can access the folder. Should be able to do the same for your folder.

Sounds like it's a permissions stopping you moving or accessing folders. You'll need permission off the IT person to call your IT support company to sort this out.

tools -> folder options -> view -> untick "simple file sharing" - the security tab will now be visible in the folder properties
