Hi ive got a 97 corsa sport 1.4 16v which failed the mot on emissions have had a new cat fitted and rest of exhaust is fine also tried a different lamda sensor on it but it is stilling failing on emissions does white smoking mean water is getting in? ive checked oil no mayo on oil cap but still could be head gasket? i had a new head gasket fitted about 18 months ago and head was skimmed only done 9 thousand miles since but could it be the head gasket has gone again? i guess i will have to get a compression test done to find out for sure??

Yeah, If it deffo is 'White' smoke (vs. Blue or dark) then you'd think head gasket or indeed a problem with head itself (e.g. cracked)...
I think you're right, compression test would be sensible idea and take it from there.

Yeh smoke does look white forgot to mention had it plugged into tech 2 there were no fault codes, is there anything else it could be? as in plugs/leads? or would they not cause such a problem? will have to get it pressure tested....

I don't think so, plugs/leads if anything would cause problems with fueling and combustion -dark smoke.
I guess from my experience with albeit an older engine I had a lot of blue smoke that i thought was white initially, and was eating oil at an alarming rate (Piston rings and stem seals).
So I guess, easy driveway test, check your oil level to rule that one out.
