ok so contract is up at the end of the month and decided i want an iphone.
phoned up o2 and they said i have to swap to an 18 month contract and pay £45 a month for 1200 mins and 500 text. this is no good. i pay £32 a month now for 600mins and unlimited text. i hardly use my minutes and send alot of texts 1-1.5k a month. they said they dont do discounts or change deals, is this true? thats utter utter toss if so.
i know you can buy them n unlock them, but id rather have something legit, but if i have to bend over for it i might have to reconsider....

iirc you can get the iphone with 600 mins 500 texts and £99 for the iphone, there are various tariffs are available. If you want the iphone at no cost you have to get a £40+ tariff. Hope this helps

I was planning on ringing them and seeing if I can keep my contract with a 3g iPhone too. I don't want 18 month contract though.
Will be interested to see if anyone has blagged them into it....?

Also you could try and get a text bolt on, or ask o2, as most o2 tariffs that are £35+ should have unlimited texts however don't know if this promotion is available on the iphone, you could always get the bolt on though as far as i'm aware.

02 don't provide any slack with their tariffs as they're set on the iphone, however if you're a current 2g iphone customer, you should be able to upgrade to the 3g without any cessation fee to pay

me 3.
i think the problem with the iphone contracts is that a % of it goes to Apple, so they have no room to mess/add option etc.

ok so ive had a few thoughts:
They only offer 4 contracts, and only 2 worth having:
Contract 1: £35pm – 600 mins / 500 text & Pay £100 for phone
Contract 2: £45pm – 1200 mins / 500 text & FREE phone
Based on sending 1500 texts a month (it happens) then the cheapest your going to pay for the year is £610, and seems your on 18 month itl come to £865.
£35 pm x 12 = £420
£7.50 for unlimited text bolt on x 12 = £90
£100 to buy phone.
If you compare this to the £45 a month contract you are saving £1370 a year by taking the lower tariff based on sending 1500 texts a month.
and now my brain hurts, looks like the cheapest il get it is £42 a month, which is EXPENSIVE. i do need it for internet etc though, so time to lube up

Why not consider the HTC Touch Diamond or the Samsung Omni as alternatives to the Iphone

ok so contract is up now so need to get this sorted.
i have worked out a way of getting a normal contract, and then getting iphone on PAYG, works out about £50 a yr cheaper for me.
few questions though........iphone on payg, its just £350 for the phone? will my 3G sim work correctly? all internet browsing, wifi etc? ive tried reading the o2 website but that shit is confusing

"This also includes unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for the first 12 months after you activate your iPhone 3G*. At the end of the 12 months you can continue to receive unlimited browsing and Wi-Fi for just £10 per month."
but i would already have unlimited web browsing on my contract, also, how can they limit your access to wifi?
