something's making a very loud noise under my bonnet. i first thought it was the timing chain, but someone has suggested it could be my alternator.

theres enough oil in her.

what noises do they make and i can still start the car every morning.

also does the 1.2 16v use the same alternator as any of the other corsas?

if ur mom noticed it she can fix it LOL, i think the alternators come down to 8v alternator and 16v alternators, so basically i think you will just need a 16v alternatof to fit.

If it sounds like a diesel when warm, and makes a clatter when you turn off the engine, then it will be the timing chain.

Torsa g - 100k is the recommended interval, yes. But Corsa C's had a recall issue, some after 20k (may be less) and I had my cam chain done at about 70k miles.

If it sounds anything like this, it's the timing chain - recording on a shocking camera phone, so it will be a deeper noise and not quite so bad.

I would have said that was the timing chain, although it sounds a whole lot worse than mine and not continuous. Granted all chains could have worn differently etc.

I'd just check the alternator first etc - but if it's still charging the battery and you have no alternator light on the dash, I can't see it being that.

both suggestions are wrong.

its the timing chain tensioner. its oil fed based on pressure, and as you rev engine the tensioner has collapsed in a way that its not gettin oil, so casuing the timing chain to go slack.

if we're being pedantic the cause of failure is the tensioner, and not the chain, so in answer to the question of "what is broken here?", the answer is tensioner, and not timing chain.
