iv looked at a car that i am thinking of buying, but its burning oil, i dont know how much because i havent had it running proper yet. buttt whats more common to go? piston rings? or oil stem seals? i know i should of checked it over more but i didnt have the time nor tools on me. just want to know whats common really . cheers

Best way is to take it a run really.
If its smoking on full throttle acceleration, its more than likely to be rings.
If its smoking on deceleration (engine braking etc) its probably valve stems.
Dont take that as gospel though.

They often shoot oil into the breather pipe then into throttle body on decelleration.
Catch tank sorts that though.
Take it for a run and get a mate to try and keep up behind you. Tell him to watch for blue smoke.
