oki heres the deal
my brother bought a 106 rallie, R reg, in blue,
had it a year almost, had problems with the engine, hell knows what he done but i stripped it down, and theres a fuked piston, 7 bent valves and one broken off, and its snapped a rocker arm. so basicly can get the head fixed up with all new parts cheap from my mate at the engineering shop, but i cant source pistons?, peughout quoted £1000 for a set
its the 1.6 8v by the way
anyone know off an engine?
whats the difference between the Gti and the rallie bottom end? would a gti bottom end fit a rallie head?
really looking for sugestions?
also whats a fair price to offer him for it the way it stands
shells in real good nick, new back axle etc
hope someone can help

just pick up a 16v engine and use the rallye mount notched on the OSF to fit the cambelt
would work out better in the long run for power upgrades
And as far as i know, the GTi bottom end is a different compression ratio to the rallye one...
maybe the VTR bottom end is similar?

16v engine is a fair bit of work to fit, as mentioned above needs some work on the OSF mount, and you need to do a fair bit of work on the loom to make it work.
Look for a 1.6 XSI engine, same thing. Or you could get a saxo VTR bottom end and put the rebuilt rallye head on it.

The 16v bottom end is lower comp, also the 16v block will have holes for an extra oil way and the 16v timing belt tensioner. It will also be more expensive than a rallye block on its own, so either get one of those, or a 16v engine as a whole imo.

LMFAO what tosh. rallye is in a different league to a quicky
just buy any 1.6 bottom end and use you rallye head,
or buy any early black top engine put the rallye cam in it and use all rallye inlet etc.

its a TU engine i work for peugoet there all the same sept for block sizes and some have 16 valve heads such as the gti.
the TU engine is found in loads of diffent cars, just cos its in the ralley doesnt make it and diffrent.

The 106 XSi 1600 bottom end is identical to the Rallye bottom end. Although you would probably have difficulty finding just a spare bottom end for sale as the 1.6 XSi had a very short production date.
Ebay is your best bet, as you can usually find replacement rallye engines, or often a set of 1600 pistons for sale.
The Gti bottom end could be used, and im sure it has a higher compression ratio rather than a lower one that a few members above have mentioned. Although dont expect it to be a simple case of bolting on the head.
The other alternative would be to pick up a Saxo VTR bottom end, these can be picked up cheaply as the VTR is soooo common.

i have a 1.6 xsi engine spare with head but ill be keeping that for spares for my mate. although pending price i would ask him if he still wants it
s2 rallye loom and GTI single plug ecu loom is iirc plug and play
trimming the engine mount isnt difficult just a matter of trial and error

wrong again my friend. 16v block is slightly different. Oil jets fitted in most. And i was actually talking about you saying a quiky is better than a rallye.

Use the 8v alternator on the 16v engine its better fitting imo Convert the loom (unless its going in a s2 rallye) is time consuming but i saved myself some money doing that. Make sure its an unlocked 16v ecu as if half the hassle to get running Modify the engine mount piece of piss takes 15mins You'll need the stat hose off the 16v engine to connect your rad
