Smoke from exhaust system.
Arches (for rust etc)
General condition of car (dings, quality of paint work, interior)
Any tappy noises from engine.
And i'm sure more people can contribute.

4 wheels, an engine, some seats, steering wheel, running gear, brakes, doors are a plus
on a serious note
i always check in the oil filler cap for mayo
the coolant bottle for stuff that shouldnt be there
check for rust on arounf the rear wiper (common)
service history is a bonus (make sure miles match mot''s)

cracks in the door pillars.
worn bolster on drivers seat
rust around rear wiper
rust around bottom tips of the spoiler
Rust patches above rear jack points on inside of the sill
tappy engine
reverse gear
idle is smooth
mayo under oil cap
oil in coolant
check general wear of tyres and discs/pads
check documents and get a hpi done!
