Can I put any pistons and rods from any XE into my late setup '93 engine? Or do I need them to match.
Cheers.

No they need to be the right size. If you take yours out there is a measurement stamped into it.
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

depends what you mean, whether you mean you have rods/pistons from different set or just any old rod/piston.
if did have say 2 rods/pistons from one motor and 2 from another its not ideal, but if got them checked/balanced and aslong as the right big end cap was on the right rod you could get away with it.
86mm is largest bore before a rebore anyway, but you question is a tad vague

Cheers Ste W, that's what I meant.
If I'm looking at removing the pistons, is it lots of extra work to get a re-bore to a 2.1? What parts would I need to change? The machining side of things is covered, but is it just a case of changing the pistons or is it more involved? Sorry if I'm being a bit vague, I'm not dead clued up on the bottom end side of things.

I looked into a 2.1 but it is mega money. What I did find out is the 1800 big block engine is the same as an C20xe so can be bored out to 2.0 and use standard pistons and rings. It is then essentially a brand new engine if you replace the bearings too.

Standard pistons and rings as in c20xe stuff? Interesting, is it worth the extra hassle rather than just swapping pistons over?

If you can find a 20xe block with no wear then it's worth a fortune! If you bore the 18xe to 2.0 then you can use standard 20xe parts to rebuild it like new. then you only have to pay for the rebore not the £1000 for new pistons and rings for a 2.1

88mm pistons will set you back between 450-550. then the boring 80-100.
but then if went for the 88mms, id be looking at steel rods 300-700, etc etc you start upgrading a few bits, and the list just keeps going and going

XE rebuilt and throttle bodies and few other odds £3k and maybe 200or so bhp!

What kind of quarter mile times would both run in a corsa do you reckon? out of interest.
