Not sure yet but I think the head gasket may have gone on my brothers 1.5td.
I've never done any jobs on a diesel, how difficult is it compared to doing a 20XE?

only thing i would say is more difficult is the cambelt as it incorporates the diesel pump.
the principal is the same just make sure you lock the pulleys so you dont put the pump out of time.
also the diesel engines have a tendency to crack the cylinder head so its advisable to have it pressure checked when its off
