Oil pressure switch, Common fault. Easy twist out and then twist back in if I remember rightly

The oil light doesn't indicate low level, it indicates a broken pressure switch or imminent engine failure. Total waste of time.

Just get a new one. Couldn't say if it's safe to drive because it could be the oil pump giving up...

My oil light has flashed twice in the whole time I've had the car, both time when I've been going round a corner. This was because oil was low. It's never stayed on though so I have no idea.

Half a litre may not have been enough? Basically, I think the idea is that most folk wouldn't drive it. You run a risk of fucking the whole engine if there's an oil issue.

basically the oil light in the corsa is nothing to do with oil level its the oil pressure and if the oil pump is dying which could be likely = no oil going around = engine death very soon if you drive it any more. cant be any more simpler than that tbh.

Matt and everyone else.... you need oil to have pressure... so the light WILL go on if the oil is low enough to not get sucked up the pipe.

top the oil to the MAX mark on the dip stick.
Turn the engine on, let it idle. Take the oil cap off...... is there oil getting flung around (let it idle for a min)
If the pump has goneyou wouldnt expect to see much if any oil in the head.
Dont worry about letting it idle with no oil pump.... by the sounds of it you would have bearing damage by now anyway if it had failed.
If you have oil pressure (my manualy looking) change the switch. Google will help you find it.

hi
check your oil label
check your oil sensor make sure it is hole clean
check your oil sensor wire have no cut or damage or it is skratch with engain body
if you checked all these point above and there is no proplem
then you have proplem in your oil pump "low preasure" so you need to repalce it
thanks
