This always seams to be 1.4 sport owners.
When the headgaskets go on these engines you will not get oil and water mixing.
They go between the no 4 cyolinder and the water jacket.
Try checking for white smoke/missing when you start up, coolant loss, and try removing no4 spark plug see if its different to any of the others.
Not saying it is headgasket but thats what to look for on the 14.

Plug 4 is fine, its been doing it for abut 4 months now so i know its not the head gasket or it would have gone by now....there is no evidence that it is the head gasket only a stupid water sound....bit of white smoke out of the exhaust.....thats about it but the bubbling / gurgling sound goes really really loud sometimes...cheers guys

When i flushed the coolant system it wasn't that bad, bit of sludge and grit but not much though.... I reckon if i flush it with a high powered hose pipe it might get that airlock out.....Has anyone had this before??? anyone??!!! its driving me nuts!!!

On the 16v engines there is a bleed screw on the thermostat housing, use this to bleed the sytem up.

I'd just like to say thanks to Ainsley... I believe now that it is the head gasket as this morning I had cold air from the fans which were on hot, and my engine over heated! .... I got to work and popped the bonnet and had no coolant!!... I only filled it up to the top a week ago!! Anyway cheers mate...i'm having it sorted as its still under warrenty......any more info on it ...when you had it done did it help the performance / feel of the car etc...? coz my car feels crap at the moment! Ta for the help everyone!

i have that sound. i hope it aint the feckin head gasket.
i know mine needs a new water pump. i find though that i only usually hear that sound when the water level in the expansion tank gets low and sits just over the hole in the bottom.

From what ive seen on this website over the last year or so, everyone who has this funny sound always ends up with a blown head gasket, people say air locks etc but ive never heard of anyone fixing it due to an airlock. If anyone gets this sound, go to a garage and get a compression test asap.

i had that noise and always had a smokey zaust, headgasket went, was chucking oil down the front of engine.
I got the head gasket done, new radiator, and thermostat. But still have the noise and smokey zaust.
I given up caring now, if my engine fecks, i just gonna drop a 2ltr in i reckon.

mine has this gurgling sound, and the oil filler cap has a bit of sludge round it, looks like oil with a bit of condensation. So im gonna get the gasket replaced. Any idea how much fitting will be for this? As i dont want to use my car till its fixed.

not always a head gasket. mine did this for about 12 months and i had no problem. More than likely an airlock, when i drained the system and re filled, it was more noticable for about a week and now it doesn't do it

dudes its nothing to do with ur head gasket.
My RS2000 does this and my previous 106 GTI did the same thing.
Its just the water being sucked through the coolant system and most likely an air lock. Try flushing the system and refilling it or let the car warm up from cold with the cap of the header tank bubbles mite come out. at least u know the system is working just turn ur radio up a bit. but it shouldnt be affecting ur heaters or temp gaugemine stays as normal and had plenty of hot air
If it is affecting this thats a different matter and get to a garage

Mine does this when cold, imo it's just the water flushing around the system, as ive had a compression done before when i thought the gasket might have gone.
I also drained out the coolant system when putting samco hoses on and it still does it.
Only thing that worries me is when sitting in traffic alot the temp goes up quite quickly, last time it did that my rad blew up what could that me? thermostst or sensor or what?
