Hi all,

My corsa sport 1.6 has been using quite a bit of water lately and seems to be burning water as there is white smoke from the exhaust, so I done a compression test today to check to see if the headgasket has gone and I got these results :

Cylinder 1= 15 bar
Cylinder 2= 14.2 bar
Cylinder 3=16.1 bar
Cylinder 4= 15 bar

They all seem to be ok to me so it doesn't look like the headgasket has gone. Has anyone got any other idea's? I thought maybe the head is cracked?

Thanks Adam

There's no pressure in the expansion bottle after running the car for 4 minutes from cold

go for a run with car or have someone to drive you car and follow him to see if water is coming out of the exhaust. Some water and vapor in the morning is Ok when cold.

Well when I done the compression test, I got the engine up to temperature first, it didn't struggle to get there, only took about 7 minutes to get to 90 on the gauge. When it was up to temp it did start smoking very lightly on idle, but when I held it at about 2000rpm it started blowing white smoke quite a bit.

you should do a compression test on cold engine first.

A compression test will only tell you if the gasket is gone between cylinders or from the cylinder to the edge of the head - it won't tell you if it's gone between the oil and water ways

But surely if it's gone between the oil and water ways then it wouldn't be burning water through the engine and smoking white at the exhaust? It would just make the oil cap mayo. But there is no mayo on the oil cap.

I'll have to get hold of a leak down test Comabt, thanks mate
