Is there anyway of checking if a x16xe head has been skimmed previously?

Would be pretty hard, especially if its just had a couple of thou taken off

there are marks on a head to indicate how much has been took of if you go to a engine builder he will show you

Check the compression against a standard one
If it seems alot higher it will most likley of been skimmed

if you take it somwere to get it skimmed they should no how big the head was to start and then can measure it up to see if its the same size as from factory.....

Only real way of telling is measuring it. A normal skim won't make any difference to the compression usually.
