I have tried different types of degreaser's and using a small wire brush to try clean the head of on this engine and it does kind of work but it's taking forever to remove just a small amount and its a nighmare to get in with the little wire brush.
Ideally need something that i can spray on and just rinse off.
I don't really want to paint it as im trying to keep it looking as original as possible.

As with most stains its finding out what it is and
then use the best method.
If you dont know its trial and error....
Have you tried nitramorse?
Its used to strip paint but may lift the root of the strain/mark?
Vinegar or even lemon juice due to the acid content.
Just ideas, hope it helps.

Youll need to dry it and get something on it (usually we spray paint) else it will just corrode again mate.

It's looking like the only way to sort it.
Cant find anything that will remove it.
Its not corroded it just looks like dirt stains to me.

If you have access to a crane, you should take it out, clean bottom end, paint bottom end, clean head, paint head.
Would look very nice when finished and worth all the effort. Also you could change any belts that needed doing at the same time.
Else just take head off, paint it and change gasket/head bolts/pre-tensioner and possibly cambelt if needs doing.
You probably won't get it sparkling without taking it out anyway (the head), have you considered paying a metal polisher to shine it up for you? That'd work without any painting and would look lavish tbh.
not sure about his prices, but the other half's mum's boyfriend does it:

Else find a local shop near to you, I'm sure you could get it sparkling. Post some pics if you go down this route, would love to see the before/after!

The Engine is already on a stand mate and just finished painting the block last week and have almost finished cleaning up the gearbox ready for paint.
The engine is getting all new belts, clutch ect before it goes in.
I just like the original fatctory looks that really the reason i dont want to start painting the head.

Then my reccommendation to you is to get it metal polished. Providing there is no rust on the head, it will come back shiny like factory new!
Send it to the pros, they have all the equipment needed to buff it up properly, make sure to send us all finished pics of whatever you decide to do!
