Iv heard this being metioned before as the original internal gears can score/crack but what is the chances of this?
Don't know whether to upgrade mine or not before the engine goes in plus its around £160 for the kit.
Looks like the oil pump on mine has not been touched for a long time so dont know if it's worth disturbing and was told the engine doesn't tap even from cold so guessing the pump is working as it should.

If you've got a old GM pump, I'd say swap the inner gear from SBD and the nylon pressure relief. It will work out cheaper than a Z20 pump.

strip it down, check it for damage or marks to the toothed gears inside it, marks where the release valve slide in and out. if it all looks fine, put it back together and use it.

Pretty high, I've killed one, Nic has done two. Do it now while it's out of the car.

i spent £11 including postage on a ZLET/LEH pump off ebay, only done 33k apparently. looked spot on inside.... and the pick up pipe can be made from a 1.7td one, just extend it 60 or 70mm (iirc) and use the pick up bit from the XE
much cheaper than spending £300 odd

Ah that the only place to get the it then?
£160 i didn't plan on spending and will probs delay the conversion a bit longer but wan't to do it right so the conversion will have to wait a bit longer.

Are there any markings on the SBD inner gear so it can be identified?
Found some one selling a brand new SBD inner gear and GM outer gear.Just so if i buy it i know if its the real deal or not.

Was reading on a astra forum and a couple people have just replaced the relief valve for the nylon one as thats the main cause of the problem so if the relief valve doesn't stick then no damage would be done to the internal gearing.
Does that sound about right or am i missing something ?
