Windows 2003 Server running our Terminal Services.

Anyone had this error before? (see title) - I get the msg on the console and users trying to log in get a message about resources being low.

Suddenly 3 days on the trott we have had this problem which involves rebooting the server to let users back in (not very sexy)

Currently looking at 2 attack methods to resolve it:

1. Remove and recreate the page file - reboot

2. Registry entries:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"PagedPoolSize"=dword:ffffffff
"PoolUsageMaximum"=dword000003c
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"PagedPoolSize"=dword:ffffffff
"PoolUsageMaximum"=dword000003c

Anyone encountered this problem and fixed it? Google is very hit and miss with what worked and what didn't

And yes resources are fine, diskspace, cpu and memory are all sweet.

I'd be looking for something to cleanup the registry. How long is the build? Terminal Server servers are prone be being full of shite by the time a few people have logged onto them, 2003 even worse than 2008

Thinking about it (and following on from what Steve said), the pagefile isn't increasing in size and filling the disk up on logon is it?

re-created the page file by setting it to none, reboot, then set it to system managed and then another reboot.

Dont really want to do the reg entry yet, would really like to know if the page file has fixed it first.

Does a reboot fix this issue with out touching the PF, other option with enuff ram is run with out PF.

How much is the PF used via TS on the paging deltas and page faults.

That would kinda imply no changes to the PF, how much RAM is on the box?

btw i decided to re-create the page file again last night, and I setup the AV to exclude the pagefile as apparently this can corrupt it. So far so good today.

yeah totally, I think this use to be a physical box which got converted to virtual when they got all loved up with vmware. So its going to stay that way until we get rid of the server I imagine!

Sophos.

The server was fine yesterday but then had a pop up message last night at 8pm, which is the same time the second backup job of the day runs (the other one starts an hour earlier). I noticed last night that both backup jobs (one to disk, one to tape) were both raping this serrver for files out of C:\docs and settings.
