The big question - were you mis-sold or just claiming because you can?

Was genuinely misold.
The person who used to work at the bank was a friend of my sister, She said at the time (2006) the only way i'll get approved for the loan was to take PPI. She doesnt work for the bank now but she told my sister they used to get commission for selling PPI.

But what if she telling the truth and you did need the ppi to get approved?, and the nature of you taking it means they get commission. To me if its fully explained to you, you werent mis-sold it.

Mbna sent me a letter saying I've been identified as a potential customer who was mis-sold this but I genuinely don't think I've ever had PPI. Will fill out the form and see what happens.

I've done two lots totaling £2000. Send the letter yourself and sit patiently for 6-8 weeks otherwise the company you do it through takes about 20% of everything you should get back

That's why I wouldn't use an agency.

Hate this PPI thing, loads of people paying for stuff and didn't give a shit at the time, now at a time when banks don't want to lend to businesses because its too risky they have to set aside billions.
If people (not just on here, across the UK) had read what they were accepting before signing they wouldn't have paid the money in the first place.

It's what they've paid, it's what they're entitled to, didn't know about it at the time. I don't see a problem.

I don't think I'm due any, but they said I might. So I'll certainly find out. Free monies.

I got cold called by a company. I asked what was in it for them. She replied "we take 40% of your pay out sir".
I said asked what happens if I get a generic letter off the internet and send it off, how much of the compensation will I get?
She said "Well, 100% sir".
I said "I think I'll do that then" and put the phone down.
I've always knowingly took out PPI but only on credit cards, as I was at uni etc and didn't really have a means to pay it back if I got in trouble, but at the same time didn't have massive amounts on it.
Last year in total on my Barclaycard I paid £25.
