I'm round at a friends and his car has been leaking coolant. Had a quick look this morning and the driver side footwell is soaked...I'm no expert but guessing this means knackered heater matrix?
Is it a driveway DIY job or one for a garage? He's got receipts from December 2012 which is a vauxhall garage replacement of the matrix so its not been in THAT long.

depends how good you are with the spanners? but if its been done in december 2012 then try for waranty first. are you sure its coolant in the foot well as corsa c's are very prone to water leaks on the bulk head around brake servo, heater air inlet, electric junction box and seems around a pillar to bulk head/windscreen.

Can't be 100% its coolant, but kinda assuming/hoping so since he's losing coolant too.
We have got the trim off and car is getting up to temp to see if we spot any leaks.

Check if it smells sweet if that makes sense could be the servo/pedal box seal leaking. Aswel as under the car

Right forget about the footwell for a minute, we've found the coolant leak
Jacked car up and could see it all pooling up on the undertray, traced the leak up and found a slight bubbling coming from a hose ontop of the engine.
After stopping the engine and letting it cool off for a minute we gave the hose a slight squeeze... and I mean SLIGHT and after fountain of coolant we were left with:

The plug seems to be a single moulded bit of plastic which slides into the hose and then screws into the engine(?)

Obviously the threaded part of that plastic is now snapped off and stuck in the engine. Is it worth ramming something into it and trying to twist it out? If we can get it out, potentially this could be a cheap fix.... I guess?

Seems like I've identified the component as the water pump, which don't seem particularly expensive to replace so he's going to source a pump and we'll get that swapped at somepoint.

cant be sure but that fitting looks the same as the vent pipe (from top of the head to header tank) on my z22se, its brass on mine and you can get it as a spare from vauxhall or from a breakers. keep the costs down if you can get the broken peice out?

Yeah found a brass replacement on eBay for a tenner. He's tempted by it but we weren't sure what impact it could have if bits of broken plastic ended up in the coolant system... so for the sake of another £15 it would make sense to go waterpump, unless fitting is an absolute bitch(?)

Common problem that is .... You can get a brass insert to fit into the waterpump from any vauxhall dealers
