I noticed that most places sell skirting board with a groove in it that will allow you to run speak cable behind it.

Has anyone used this stuff before?

I have a question, how do you get it out of the skirting at the point you want to put the speakers? I assume you will need make some kind of hole at the top of the skirting to feed the cable through?

Apologies if this is a stupid question....

Generally lay speaker cable and then place skirting board over the top. Ensure speaker cable lies at the bottom so you can access if need be. At the point of speaker exit wire at top of skirting board and chalk around

Will get some pics of what I have done

I've seen a really tidy arrangement before where some bullet connector type plugs (banana plugs?) were built into the skirting.

Not sure if it was a DIY job or an off the shelf type of skirting, pretty cool though!

You mean banana plug wall plates/sockets? I've seen them used a few times and either, as you say, buried into the skirting or into the wall just above; they aren't discreet though.

They are when there's a speaker in front of them.

you can get flat speaker cable which can be tucked under the skirting if you have a gap, if you are renovating yourself, just router out the back of the skirting and feed it through?

flat stuff
