Just having a debate about how Whatsapp works and whether it would work on a plane with no internet connection. I couldn't see that it would because as I understand it it uses the mobile data allowance or a wifi connection, however disabled wifi and cellular data on the handset and the message got through, wtfgoingonkthnx.

Can't have all been disabled or someone is lying.

Only possibility is if it fails back to text and normal cellular network was still turned on.

Its a Samsung Galaxy, no lies as I turned them off myself. Text fallback sounds reasonable, is there any way of evidencing that? Guessing the handset intercepts the incoming SMS before the text handler app deals with it?

Airline mode on iPhone prevents it working, just tested it.

Also individually disabling wifi, 3G, Cellular Data rather than choosing airline mode prevent it from working.

I've used it on 4 handsets and (3 android and one iOS and it doesn't work on any when mobile data and wifi is switched off). Must have been collected from the server but not delivered and your phone has then synced it.

Just turned wifi and data off on a s4 and the message didn't get out
