In my 1.0 12v, mostly when stationary but sometimes when moving, you can hear a constant knocking noise which is doing my head in.
It sounds like it's coming from and feels like (when you rest your hand on the bottom of the handbrake), that it's the handbrake, but what specifically could it be? And is it an in-car or under-car job? Cheers

Can anyone shed any light on this?
Can I try fix it myself or is it worth paying a mechanic £20 to sort the knocking sound out?

Anything under the car you'll feel through the handle.
Cheapest thing is to get under there yourself, most common knock is the exhaust on the rear beam, particularly if its lowered.

Cars not been lowered but thanks for that, I'll have a poke around the exhaust and see if it could hit anything. Cheers

On further inspection (when I grabbed the exhaust and shook it about)...the exhaust appears to be knocking on the "rear beam". The beam that goes from side to side across the quarter panel area.
I've not tinkered with exhausts before...how do I adjust it so it stops hitting it? I don't think the car has been lowered. Thank you everyone.
