Okay, so I have a friend who has a Corsa B with the wheezy little C12NZ engine and is looking at doing a 1.8 swap. Fitting the engine is the easy part, it's just what gearbox to use. I was thinking of matching it with a F17 box, but the thing I'm trying to find out is does the F17 behind the X18XE1 in a Mk4 Astra have the bracket on top for the clutch cable to hook into? I've noticed noticed the Z18XE boxes don't have the bracket cast onto the case. I can't seem to find any pictures that would verify this.
Or would a F13 be okay behind the 1.8 and would it be possible that we could use a brand new clutch, flywheel and thrust bearing I have gathering dust from a C16XE GSi engine with this combination.

Use the gearbox that came in the car, both engines are small block. If the engine is staying standard then use an 8v or a 1.2 16v flywheel as they flat/lighter rather than the x18xe1 pot flywheel unless your c16xe or cn12z are flat type anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Main purpose of the car is daily driver/track warrior, so it's subject to some abuse. I don't know if he plans to get more power out of the engine once it's fitted, but he's already done all the suspension work (seeing as he's a suspension specialist), he's just looking for more power. I was kinda confused about gearbox selection, mainly due to the fact I don't intend on doing the same job twice if I don't need to.
The car itself has done over 300,000kms, so he's thinking new clutch whilst we've got the engine and box out and I've got the pot type flywheel and clutch I pulled from my old GSi before I stripped it (only has about 5000kms on it).
Going slightly off topic, his car has the Type 1 driver's engine mount (ie non-power steering, 8v), would those mounts still function the same if fitted to a X18XE1/Z18XE, or will we need to use a Type 2 mount?
