Thats you engine management light it can be a range of things so I would go to vaux and get them to have a quick look if the cars still under warrenty it won't cost you a penny

They are to55ers.
The problem your going to have, is that if the engine management light isn't specific, you will need to have the car plugged in to a machine that will give you a fault code this code then tells you whats wrong with car.
Without this there is no telling whats wrong

My light came a couple of months ago, but went off by the time I was home. So haven't done anything about it and everything is ok.

sometime the light comes on and goes off this is normal - read manual
if the light doesnt stay on for 30 secs it does not leave a error message on the ecu if it stays on longer to have a fault
you can read these faults wi a paper clip or buy a fault reader from halfords for bout 20 quid if that

i have had a couple of occasions with my dash light coming on.
its usually when i go to start the car. the light flashes and the engine dies, then it takes a bit of time to start, not long, usually 5 seconds ish.
after that its ok.
last time it did it was sunday morning in a packed petrol station!!
such fun!
then i drove to london and twatted a kerb, chewed up my alloy and ripped a hole out of a fairly good tyre!
ho hum!!

do you by any chance drive with your foot resting on the clutch?
If so this will cause the light to come on because the switch recognises that you are touching the clutch at the same time as accelerating and it cannot work out why. It lights up to tell you that it has a problem comprehending what is going on. If you turn off the ignition and keep your foot off the clutch it should stop. It happens to me everytime i drive my husband's car cos i rest my foot on the clutch.
Hope this helps.

this is dead easy 2 do
all u need to do is get a paper clip and bend it until u have got a U shape
Start ur car up
Take off the fuse cover in ur motor
in here, u will see a white diagnostic plug on the left handside with 2 rows of connectors on it
Get the paper clip and push both ends into the righthand side connectors in the plug - there will only be two holes u can put them in
then once this has been put in, the orange management light will start flashing
it will flash twice, pause, then once - this is ok.
it will then give a long pause then flash, then pause
u need to writer this number down, so if the fault code was 35, it would flash 3 times, pause, then flash 5 times.
if u have any probs u2u me ok
