As above. ^^
Right, I need to get a new gearbox fitted due to mine going boom. Most of you will know that my car used to be a 1.2 16v Sxi so the gearbox that has just gone would be the one that come as standard with that car. I have had a 1.6 16v engine fitted now though so the extra power has obviously taken its toll on the gearbox.
What I want to know people is... Can any Corsa gearbox be fitted easily to my engine and what box will give the best acceleration? Sport/Gsi or the same old Sxi box again?
I'm only gonna get a second hand one as I will be selling very shortly and dont wanna pay out about £1k for Vauxhall to fit me a brand new one.

Would a Gsi box improve acceleration?

yeah get a gsi box, of course it would improve acceleration, because the gearing in them is designed for top of the range engine

^^ Not necessarily. I thought the lower spec boxes had shorter ratios therefore improving acceleration.

F13 gb are short ratio. For the power you ahve i'd suggest min of an F15 box.

The 13 in F13 means that the box will take 130lb/ft of torque. So it should be ok. Obviously the F15 from a 1.4/1.6 16v will be a bit more robust.

F13 is in the 1.2 16v and 1.4 16v. F15 is in the GSi/1.6 Sport.

Sport boxes are also close ratio, so will help in the acceleration department.

No, the 1.4 16v's also have the F15, well, at least some of them do.

So, the F16 will fit a 1.6 16v Corsa?

They must have fitted the F15 gb to the later 1.4 16v Sport models then???
And how are teh stats still exactly the same with different gear boxes???
My old box was an F13. In fact, i'll make a point of asking a vaux mechanic at the weeend (and hes no cowboy either, he knows his vauxhalls rather well )

By stats I guess you mean performance figures. The F13 & F15 could have the same ratio's. Different ratio's but the same ability to get to 60. Or the most probablt answer is that they were tested at the start of production with whatever box they had and never tested or worried about again.

1.4 was fitted with F15 on VERY late models. Ratios for 3rd and 4th gear were different between F13CR and F15CR.
