With just a new inlet manifold, that's where all the power is - above 5000rpm. Your right by saying that you have to drive harder, but it can be a laugh to see other people scrambling to change gear as you keep on going

What engine have you got?
Have a look at the various options before you spend eg, Velos, Mantzel etc

Velos is best for the money. The standard inlet manifolds aren't restricted at low rpm.
Do a search, its all be said a thousand times.

velos are good but look cheap, mantzel are expensive but are one or the original manufacturers of these and they look good (I got one), Lexmal are a little different they use a ram effect to gain horses and keep the original inlet tract, its the inlet tract that is the restriction, the other 2 take this away completely

Dblias (spelling) now do a kit its cheaper than the mantzel one just and is a real nice bit of kit you get a nice cam cover with that, the manzel cam cover is extra and expensive, mantzel you get from courteney sport, dblias you get from regal autosport

I'd rate the Velos Torq Tube, I use this on my GSi - cheapest option and does the same as the others.

Lexmaul +15bhp (£300)
Velos, Mantzel + Dbilas +20bhp (£300-500)
Velos plenum + Dbilas throttle boddies +30-40 (£1100)
Velos plenum/ throttle boddies on DTA(or other race management) +45bhp! (£1800-2000)
I went for the Plenum and unichip for £1100 but upgraded to DTA due to my ECU playing up.
Well worth getting an inlet manifold as it releases loads of power, dont worry about ragging it, ive done 10,000miles bouncing of standard limiter every day, now running at 7500rpm with ARP bolts (7800 at donny south)
Any1 got a better pic of me engine bay with laptop?
Would be much appreciated!

Beardy changed to 4th before me with a 2.0l, had managed to pull a yard on me between 70 and 115mph though!

Drivability is not compromised in anyway with the mantzel/velos ones.
I'd personally buy what evers the cheapest. (velos)

the only real difference between mantzel and velos is what its made from. The Mantzel power box is cast aluminium the velos looks like fabricated sheet metal any one got and pics or a web site for velos

Think you have to click on XE tunning.
The torque tube is that blue box.
Looks ok when painted but normally just come with a rough finish, if you ask them they'll probably paint one for ya.
I think the Lexmaull one looks easier to fit as you don't have to move the throttle body, but power wise it don't put out as much, graph (as shown in the latest PVD catalogue) doesn't increase as much as a mantzel/velos style one.
Id say Velos for best value, Lexmaul for easiest to fit, dbilas and mantzel i think cost so wouldn't really recomend unless you prefed the look of them.
